The news around the globe nowadays are becoming more and more depressing. After the Egyptian People Power, Libya and Bahrain are both staging their own protests against their respective governments. And now, even nature doesn’t seem to be in a good mood. A terrible 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook Christchurch, New Zealand and toppled over concrete and metal buildings alike. As of last count, there are 65 casualties and the number keeps on growing as the search and rescue for survivors trapped underneath that rubble continues. The pictures of the earthquake aftermath reminds me of the 1991 earthquake that killed many in Baguio City. Let’s all pray for the victims of the said disaster.

Tuesday February 1st, 2011 22:03 Expecting

I learned just a few weeks ago that a classmate from way back grade school is expecting a baby girl. Suddenly, images of her being a childish girl in grade school transformed into an exceptional dancer in high school flashed through my mind while I browsed through her latest pictures. I can’t believe she’s the exact girl I knew from way back. Wow. It really amazes me how fast time flies. :)

While some of my classmates are probably busy racking up good designs for baby shower invitations, the poor, penniless doctor-to-be in me is left with fantasies of how I’ll be when its my turn. In fact, I already have an idea for my little one’s nursery in the future. Since I love cows, it’s definitely going to be in black and white and filled with cow-inspired stuff. It’s almost the same as this room over here that I saw on the net except that mine’s gonna be purely black and white.

Monday January 31st, 2011 03:07 Summer 2011: The Future Awaits

Honestly, I am not looking forward to summer of 2011 because of the pending comprehensive exam this April. It seems like my life has a deadline because of it and it sucks terribly because I can’t seem to get myself plan out a great summer/out-of-med school getaway. Until Bee came along with this wonderful offer to explore Palawan for 4 days and 3 nights for just 5k+++. I still don’t have much details about the tour but I heard we’ll be staying at Dangkalan Resort in Palawan.

I looked around for more info and photos until I realized that two online friends of mine, Mica of Micamyx.com and Shena actually went there. Hah. Looks like someone’s more determined to go there now.

So come on let’s hit on the gas and step on the brake and get the days moving until my great Palawan escapade. =D

Tuesday January 4th, 2011 15:36 Online Buying

It’s been almost a month but the extra battery packs we ordered for the videocam and digital camera have yet to arrive. We were told that the holiday rush might delay the arrival of the items on our doorsteps but I didn’t expect it would take this long. Last year, I fell victim to lost/stolen packages when the cellphone case I bought online – also during December – didn’t arrive.

It’s not that difficult or scary to buy things online as long as you buy from reputable online stores. I find ebay.ph and ebay.com very useful because they allow buyers to leave feedback on their transactions with sellers. I usually go for sellers with a high rating especially if I’m buying items worth 1000+. It’s also a plus factor if I can do a meetup with the seller since it gives me the chance to inspect the items before closing the deal. I also sell some of my old but still very useful and visually-appealing stuff online. I’m able to close a few deals but there are times when I encounter non-paying bidders (which are very irritating actually). I most often use Xend Express for my transactions and they’ve never failed to meet up my expectations. I like them a lot, in fact, I already have printed return address labels to come in handy for my future transactions, mostly because they accept pick-up of items. For busy people like me, it’s time- and cost-efficient. :)

I hope my batteries are still on their way to my house and not with some stranger. You know how it is in the Philippines. Petty thieves are ruining the image of the postal office.

Monday January 3rd, 2011 01:12 The End

The Feast of the Three Kings marks the end of the joyous Christmas season for Catholics. Celebrating it today was bittersweet. It meant going back to our normal way of life. No more rushing to the malls to buy gifts. Gone are the days of greeting each other a merry season. Hay…

The end of 2010, just like the many, many years that preceded it meant also the beginning of a new year. This year though is extra special as it’s supposed to bring me major, major (ala Venus Raj. LOL) changes in my life. My 26th (gasp!) birthday, my last graduation from schooling, the comprehensive exam that I am supposed to pass first before that, the board exams which I’m supposed to take with flying colors if and when I graduate from Medicine… the list just goes on. Thinking about these major changes in my life scares me a lot since I realized how majority of these major turning points in my life have a sort-of domino effect on each other. If I fail the comprehensive exam this April, I won’t get to graduate by May and I won’t be able to take the board exams this August. That only meant all my plans will be pushed to the back burner a bit and I’ll have to wait for December again – this time not really for Christmas – but for me to retake the comprehensive exam. Pretty scary right? So for now, before I finally get back to my last minute studying for the comprehensive exams, I’m asking everyone reading my blog or even just passing through here to pause for a while for a prayer for my endeavors this year. I know praying alone doesn’t help. But then, I believe it does wonders. :P

Monday December 27th, 2010 01:44 MMFF 2010: A Major, Major Fail

I was browsing through the net with my mom’s Acer Aspire when I received a series of tweets from a friend reacting violently on the winners of the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival. I knew it right then and there. The MMFF has done it again. First, showcasing (mostly) a bunch of films that seemingly insult the intelligence of the masses and second, adding salt to the insult by granting the trophies to these kind of films. Come on. Who on Earth would actually include films like “Father Jejemon” to a film festival roster other than the Metro Manila Film Fest? And I thought we’re already in the era of the internet and social networking. WHY PATRONIZE SUCH SLAPSTICK COMEDY THAT NOT ONLY INSULTS OUR INTELLIGENCE BUT ALSO DESECRATES A RELIGION? I am a Catholic and not exactly very religious, but I know when people should draw the line between being funny vs making fun of a religion. Let’s see them do that to Islam and I’m betting all my money that all hell will break loose. =S This Metro Manila Film Festival? It’s no longer upsetting. It’s beyond desperation.
