It’s been while since I last made a spa review. Due to the time constraints (and financial if I my add…), I’ve shied away from discovering new places to relax and unwind in the past few months and making do with time-tested favorites. Speaking of tight budget, there’s a “new” spa that I recently discovered somewhere near my place here in Quezon City. It’s not exactly new especially to those who frequently travel to Kamuning from E. Rodriguez Ave. The place is called “Our Health Spa” located in Tomas Morato. Outside the spa is a banner advertising their 200-peso massage on off-peak hours during weekdays. I found it interesting since the cheapest off-peak offer that I know of is 300 pesos. I thought they might be offering spa services at cheaper prices compared to my favorites. I was right. One-hour massages were dirt-cheap at 250 pesos.  I really wanted to relax my poor feet that night so I paid for the 1 1/2 hour Aroma Reflex Massage which included a 1-hour Swedish massage and a half-hour foot reflex. After looking around the spa, I knew exactly why it was priced as such.

If you’re coming in to relax, don’t expect too much from the place. It’s small, cramped and the facilities are barely average. The place is not exactly very welcoming or relaxing. They don’t have sauna and they only have one shower which shares the space with a single toilet – without any divider at all to keep water splashes from wetting any stuff you don’t want to get wet (like the leather sandals I brought to the shower area since I couldn’t find their slippers). The massage area I was ushered into was a small cubicle which was separated from the other cubicle by a large piece of white cloth. There are no lockers but there’s a small cabinet overhead which barely contained my large Abaca bag. The towels aren’t in great condition and if you’re really picky, you may want to bring your own fluffy towel to keep yourself dry. Actually these stuff don’t mean much to me as I am more concerned with the ambiance and peace and quiet of the place. To my dismay, these were not the adjectives I would describe the place with. There were people watching TV a few feet away from my cubicle. I heard the voices of a man and children who were watching a local TV show in a small room (which I think is the area for foot/hand massages). Imagibe yourself wearing a piece of thin towel to cover your nakedness and you’d understand my anxiety at that time. I could hear them talking – loudly, at times children were screaming and halfway through my massage, somebody even hit one of the kids to keep them quiet. It wasn’t exactly the best of decisions since the kid even wailed louder. It’s one of the downsides of a residential place converted into a commercial area – there’s no privacy for customers at all which I think is a big no-no for a massage parlor. Finally the kids were ushered upstairs and I could hear their footsteps overhead while I was being ironically pampered to relax.

What I don’t like in places where there’s barely privacy to keep you away from the other customers is that you’re forced to eavesdrop to their conversations. After the kids were gone, unfortunately for me,  two noisy lady customers came in. I got to listen to their conversation about being “lesbians” much to my frustration (Actually I think they’re just a pair of college kids thinking they’re cool). Towards the end of my session, they finally shut up and I had my time for piece and quiet.

Perhaps the place’s only gem aside from the rock-bottom prices is their therapist who goes by the name “Desiree” or “Dey”. If there’s any reason why I will come back to them soon, it would be because of her who gave me a wonderful massage. Either that or I’m terribly broke. Hehe.

The Verdict:

Location (Accessibility, Parking):
-It’s located along the main road, you won’t miss it. Parking space is good enough for two-three cars.

Ambiance:
-I wanted to give a star for effort but my conscience prohibits me from doing so.

Value for Money:

-Standard massages were dirt-cheap at P250. Frustrated as I was in general (like getting a Mesothelioma treatment) My therapist “Dey” saved the place from spa review-doom
